Vacation was Awesome!

Summer is in full swing! Grace started summer school yesterday (Monday) and her first day was great! She loves riding the bus! She and Jen are going to do great things this summer!

After school let out for the year, we hit the road for East Tennessee. We started our journey in Chattanooga. Lots of neat things to do there. We went up to Lookout Mountain, went to the local Civil War Battlefields, and spent the next morning at the Tennessee Aquarium and the IMAX theatre. I think the aquarium was the biggest hit with Grace because she recognized so many of the river and sea creatures. We spent lots of time with the penguins and jellyfish! We went to the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum and took a train ride in a real passenger train through the tunnel under Missionary Ridge and watched as they turned the big engine around for the trip back! On to Knoxville!

We had more time to relax in Knoxville. We drove down to Maryville to look around a little big and spent some time in the Rooster Quilt Shoppe. The next morning we went to the Knoxville Zoo. Very Nice! Then we hit the road to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg.

We made a quick stop at the Tanger Outlets and got shoes for everyone! I had really looked forward to dinner at Corky's Bar-B-Q and it was delish! The next morning we headed to Gatlinburg, made a quick stop at the Welcome Center for souvenirs and headed downtown. A lot of walking! Ober Gatlinburg was just as I had remembered it. Grace seemed to enjoy the ride up and down the mountain. She wanted to ice skate while we were up there, but I just didn't have it in me! Then we headed to Cade's Cove for a nice drive and met lots of real live wild blackbears!

The next morning we headed to Virginia to spend some time with my cousin Cindy and her family and the newlyweds! We missed seeing you Katie! We had a nice walk - 2 miles! - in Farmville to the Civil War site "High Bridge".

I've put together a slide show of pictures if you're interested in seeing them.
