It's September Already!

Geez, the summer just flew by! Summer school finished up on August 1st. It was a great six weeks for Grace and her clinician, Megan, was just wonderful (as they have been each year!).

To celebrate three weeks 'off' from school, we headed to Ft. Wayne to see Grams and visit the Ft. Wayne Botanical Gardens and the Ft. Wayne Children's Zoo

The botanical gardens featured 'Under the Sea' which was really unique. But Grace enjoyed the underground 'worm' exhibit the most. They have a tunnel that children can climb through that simulates being a worm underground. Lots of fun climbing and sliding! She didn't seem to keen on the the talking tree. She still has issues with things that talk that she doesn't think should be able to make noise.

We started our day at the zoo with a picnic of yummies provided by Grandma! Of course, I forgot both cameras, so there are no pictures until I purchased the cheap throw-away at the gift shop. You'd think I'd learn to keep the small camera in my purse where it is intended to be!

The Ft. Wayne Zoo may not be a lot of acreage, but it is packed with lots of neat stuff to do and ride! We started with the chair lift over the African wildlife exhibit that is under construction. Very frightening for me as I didn't have my head screwed on straight when we decided this was the thing to do. But Grace sat very still and held on tight to her daddy's arm to keep him from being afraid of heights!

We got home and settled in to two weeks of fun and sun and walks and bike rides! We walked through Sauder Village with our friend Diana and saw beautiful rugs at the current exhibit (no way I would have ever put them on the floor and walked on them!). We went to the Toledo Zoo on Tuesday before school started and Grace very impatiently posed for a butterfly picture!

We attended the elementary school open house and got to see Grace's room and the gym and the cafeteria and her new teacher and paraprofessionals. We were surprised when Grace walked over to the exercise bike there in the room and asked "Where's the other wheel?" (it is stationary on a stand). This was the first question that we've ever really heard her ask in context with our activities! As we were leaving, we got to meet the new Principal of the school. He reached down and shook Grace's hand after which she promptly 'sniffed' her hand and then pulled his tie up to her nose and sniffed it, too! Guess she was wondering what he had for lunch?

Grace started Kindergarten on Wednesday, August 27th. She rides the bus to school at 9am and I pick her up at 2pm. You can bet she's getting used to the routine because that morning after she got to the top of the steps on the bus she turned around so I could take her picture! No matter that three cars were lined up waiting to pass!

Mom came over for the long Labor Day weekend. We had a nice time working on quilting projects, took a trip down the road a piece to the Door Mouse Quilt Shop with a carload of my quilting buddies, and just spent the rest of our time cooking and eating!

And then, on the following Wednesday, September 3rd, we celebrated our 9th wedding anniversary! We did it up in fine style with smoked sausage and baked beans for dinner and to bed by 8:30p! We are on fire! The life of the party!

Well, it's time to start thinking hibernation for the winter! I'm looking forward to cool fall days. Sunday we will drain the pool and get it packed up. Hope everyone is keeping their distance from the rash of hurricanes! We finally got some rain last night and are hoping for more next week.

Here are some of the latest pictures. If you can't view the slideshow, click on the link and you will hopefully be able to view it from the host site (click on slideshow in the top left corner).

Also, check out the link to our quilting site. I've added a few of the projects I finished up over the summer!
