We have a great trip to Northern California to visit Grams Corinne! We had minor issues with the flight out of Detroit, but were automatically rebooked out of Denver for just a slightly delayed arrival time in Paradise. We rented a Town and Country van which was absolutely wonderful to drive, thank goodness, as there was quite a bit of mountain driving goin' on! Paradise sits in the foothills of the Sierra mountains. So beautiful!
Sunday, April 2
A quiet, relaxing rainy day. Both Grams went to church and the three of us went to the grocery. Wow, food is really expensive in the foothills!
Grams put together a basket full of toys and videos for Grace to explore. She had a 'ball'.

Monday, April 3
Rain, rain, go away! The wetness dampered our plans to go to the Kirschner Animal Sanctuary in Durham. Instead we made a trip along the Skyway to Chico for some shopping and a nice lunch at Applebee's. We had dinner back in Paradise at Roundtable Pizza with many of Corinne's friends and got to meet Robbie and his family. Of course, I forgot to take my camera, so that will be a 'pictureless' page in the ole' scrapbook! Grams Corinne has many delightful friends! It is such a comfort to know them by face now! Marilyn, Lee, Marge, Ladd, Pedro, Kathy, Robbie - Hi! Hope to see you again soon!
We decorated Easter eggs! Hadn't done that in ages!

Oh, and of course, the scrapbook store in Paradise is closed on Monday, my only opportunity to go!
Later in the evening Grace snuggled with Grams Corinne. Too cute!Tuesday, April 4
We loaded up the van and headed to the coast! Destination: Ft. Bragg -
we were disappointed that we weren't able to ride the Skunk Train. There had been a mud/rock slide that covered the tracks so they weren't running. So instead, we walked around downtown and drove around a little bit. Nice town. The next morning on our way north, we stopped at Glass Beach to look for treasures!
Found some! You can see it's still raining! But the ocean smelled so wonderful!
We then stopped at McKerricher State Park and saw the seals
'pupping' out on the rocks.
It was a very 'tricky' drive up to Ferndale. Hadn't expected the mountains and hairpin curves! Stopped in the mountains in Garberville for a nice Chinese lunch! We then stopped at the 'Drive Thru Tree' and drove the Avenue of the Giants. So beautiful!
Got to Ferndale about 3p and walked around town. Checked in to our cottage at 4:30p. So beautiful! Two bedrooms with a full kitchen and a hot tub! Very luxurious! We had sandwiches in the room and everyone was exhausted. Little did we know that both Grams' would wake up in the middle of the night sick! Guess the Chinese lunch wasn't such a good idea!Thursday, April 6
Good thing we had such a nice place to stay because the Grams' weren't going anywhere today! Gary, Grace and I headed up to E
ureka to look around, do some shopping (wonderful bead shop!) and go to the zoo and Fort Humboldt. Had a nice lunch at Marie Callender's. We got back to Ferndale in time to walk around and take pictures of the pretty historic Victorian homes and Inns. This whole part of the trip was planned around attending the opening night of "Anatomy of a Murder" at the Repertory Theatre in Ferndale, but we were just too tired and the Grams' too sick to stay with Grace. That was a little disappointing.Friday, April 7
We headed back to Paradise today, by way of Redding with another stressful drive through the Trinity Mountains and a relaxing stop at the Turtle Bay Exploration Park. The Sundial Bridge is as beautiful as they say it is! We even got to watch a Golden Eagle pick a rat to pieces and eat it bit by bit (well, some watched, I chose not to!)
We got back to Paradise in time for a light dinner and everyone collapsed! And Grace found her position back at Grams' desk doing 'her work' with the paperclips and sticky tabs!Saturday, April 8
And so we begin our journey back to the midwest. Flights were great, we even got in to Detroit 30 minutes early. That was good because it was soon to be midnight and we still had an hour drive to the house. I imagine we'll all sleep in tomorrow!
